Barrio

PPA's annual cultural show, Barrio, is our biggest and most important event every year. It is a completely student-run production consisting of acting, traditional Filipino dances (such as Tinikling), singing, and more to showcase our culture and community to others at Penn and the wider Philly community. Previous Barrios have garnered over 400 attendees and 70 participants in the show. Participation in Barrio is open to everyone, regardless of ethnic or racial identity!

Mixers & Community Events

PPA frequently collaborates with other organizations and with the community. We host the annual Southeast Asian Mixer at Penn with participating SEA orgs presenting cultural food and games. Previously, we collaborated with the Asian Pacific Student Coalition to host Filipino-American singer Lyn Lapid at a free concert and Q&A. As constituents of PAACH, APSC, AIS, UMC, and SAC, we are involved in cultural events across campus.

District 5 Events

As a member of District 5, PPA has hosted and participated in various D5 events and mixers. PPA and FISDU (Filipino Intercultural Society of Drexel University) collaborated to host the 2023 D5 Formal with 300 guests across the district. PPA members have also held positions on the District V Executive Board, building a connection between PPA and other member schools.

Ate/Kuya/Ading, Karaoke, & More

PPA hosts smaller events every month for our community, including monthly GBMs with free food (for example, Jollibee!). Ate/Kuya/Ading, our Big/Little system, matches underclassmen with upperclassmen to form strong connections to last a lifetime. We also host karaoke, picnics, game nights, and so much more to provide our members with a safe space and a strong sense of community.
